Market Performance

Chainlink (CRYPTO:LINK) rose 15.4% in the last 30 days, while Ethereum (CRYPTO:ETH) gained only 1.1%. Despite these movements, both cryptocurrencies are trading more than half below their all-time highs. This raises an intriguing question: which coin is actually closer to reclaiming its peak?

Network Advantages

Chainlink has a structural advantage, with revenue growing with usage. It serves as an oracle network that supplies data like pricing directly to blockchains, facilitating the movement of tokens between different blockchains. Applications that utilize Chainlink's services pay fees in LINK.

Demand for Ethereum

Ethereum is the network where many of these applications operate. Demand comes from three primary sources: users pay transaction fees in ETH, investment funds buy ETH for their portfolios, and coin holders stake it. Staking involves locking up ETH to help secure the network in return for rewards.

Comparison

To return to its all-time high, Ethereum needs to rise about 1.9 times, while Chainlink must rise about 4 times. Simply put, Ethereum has a shorter distance to cover. However, when looking at recent momentum, Chainlink's 15.4% growth over 30 days far outpaces Ethereum's 1.1%. This aligns with the recent trend of traders shifting their focus toward altcoins.

Tokenizing Assets

The rising trend of tokenizing traditional assets like bonds and fund shares needs the external price data and cross-chain transfer services that Chainlink provides. Both cryptocurrencies now have spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that trade on traditional stock exchanges and hold the respective cryptocurrencies for investors. Grayscale debuted the first U.S. Chainlink ETF on December 2, 2025, followed by Bitwise on January 14.

Institutional Investor Base

Ethereum ETFs are more established and significantly larger, having traded since July 2024 and attract more inflows than Bitcoin ETFs in 2026, giving ETH a far larger institutional investor base.
