Introduction

CoinShares, a European asset manager, has launched a new OnChain Strategies business with Safe Labs and Railnet. The goal is to give enterprise users professionally managed stablecoin yield strategies while they keep full self-custody of their funds.

How the Setup Works

CoinShares handles the strategy design and risk management, without taking control or custody of user funds. Safe Labs provides the doorway, allowing users to access the strategies through its Earn widget, directly from their existing Safe accounts. Railnet supplies the vault, providing the on-chain infrastructure layer developed by Kiln.

The Strategies

The strategies blend two sources of return: DeFi yield and returns from tokenized real-world assets. Both sit inside a risk-managed framework. The fine print includes no fees for the first six months, but yields are not guaranteed and depend on market conditions and strategy effectiveness.

Background

Safe Labs manages about $60 billion in self-custodied assets across 63 million accounts, with approximately $7.5 billion in stablecoins. CoinShares does not need to build a wallet, onboard users, or hold assets, as it gets access to Safe's pool through the Earn widget.

What This Means

There are real risks to watch, including exposure to smart contract risk, protocol risk, and the quality of the underlying real-world assets. The six-month fee holiday is the other thing to track, as the real test is how much of Safe's stablecoins stays deployed once fees kick in.
