Development Milestone

Metallicus has successfully deployed an alpha version of DogecoinVM on mainnet, marking a significant step towards increasing Dogecoin's adoption and use as a global payment method. The solution was developed in response to a challenge posed by Elon Musk in 2021, where he called for the crypto community to increase Dogecoin's throughput several times over.

Architecture and Benefits

The DogecoinVM payment layer is built on top of the Metal Blockchain infrastructure and uses the Snowman consensus protocol, which has reduced transaction finalization time to 0.15-0.25 seconds. This shift from energy-intensive Proof-of-Work to Proof-of-Stake has made throughput independent of strict block-size limits. The mechanism works like a two-way bridge, with the original DOGE locked on the main network and a collateral-backed equivalent issued inside DogecoinVM at a 1:1 ratio, which can be withdrawn instantly.

Security and Governance

Metallicus is working to implement SOC 2 security standards for the banking sector and has open-sourced the source code on GitHub. However, the system has not yet undergone an independent security audit. To minimize risks, the network has strict safeguards in place, limiting individual deposits to 100 DOGE. Users are strongly advised to keep their asset balances small.

Future Applications

The current launch of DogecoinVM is a foundation for future practical applications in the real world. Metallicus aims to integrate fast cryptocurrency settlements into the payment services of social network X and explore the long-term potential of Dogecoin in fintech, banks, credit unions, and platforms.
