Quantum Blockchain's Gardin: US patent secured for ASIC Ultra Boost mining tech

Quantum Blockchain Technologies PLC (AIM:QBT, FRA:BYA1) CEO Francesco Gardin spoke with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about the company's ASIC Ultra Boost technology and its potential to improve the efficiency of Bitcoin mining, following news that the US Patent and Trademark Office has issued a patent covering the technology. Gardin explained that ASIC Ultra Boost is an algorithmic optimisation of SHA-256, the core algorithm used to mine Bitcoin, achieving savings in the number of logic gates required in a chip and potentially freeing up additional space for other purposes. He clarified that the target isn't Bitcoin miners directly but ASIC manufacturers, who could incorporate the optimisation into their chip designs without a complete redesign. On commercialisation, Gardin said QBT is already working with one ASIC manufacturer and has contacts with others, highlighting the potential significance of even a small efficiency improvement when applied across millions of chips and large amounts of energy consumption. "This is an add-on which is basically at very limited cost," he said. Gardin also discussed the possibility of royalty agreements with manufacturers and said the company would investigate whether the optimisation may already have been implemented by some, while stressing this isn't the company's main strategy. He added that the algorithmic optimisation could remain applicable regardless of future technological developments, potentially adaptable to whatever technology comes next.
